The Georgia Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA) was established by the General Assembly of Georgia to correct, prevent, and eliminate discriminatory wage pay based on sex in workplaces. The Act mandates employers with 10 or more employees to pay both males and females at the same wage rate in jobs that require equal responsibility, skill, and effort, which is also performed in the same working conditions. This Act is also referred to as the Sex Discrimination in Employment Act.
Exceptions:
Employers don’t have to match the wage rate for both sexes if the payment agreements are based on a merit or seniority system. Employers that base the employees pay on a system that measure the quality and quantity of labor, may also vary pay between both sexes.
