The state of New Jersey has passed a law requiring more information on the employee’s pay stub. Under the state wage payment law employers who are private and public must provide employees with a statement each pay period. In this this state for every pay period it must include the deductions, gross, wages, net wages, rate of pay, and also the number of hours worked during the pay period.
The bill (A-4245) would not alter the documentation claim such as hours worked, which exempt only those engaged in bona administrative, fide executive, or professional capacities or in the limit of an outside salesperson.
The Assembly Labor Committee states the purpose of the bill is to support employees with “the ability to determine whether their wages are being properly calculated.”
Additionally, the bill demands employers that pay non-exempt employees on a income, commission, or other non-hourly basis provide employees with a statement as to the rate of pay and hours created. The stated aspiration of this requirement is to “add employer accountability and protect employees from intentional or careless wage calculation errors.”
Companies must consider double checking their current payroll as a habit from now.
