Credit report checks were used to determine if an employee would be trust worthy. Employers would routinely obtain credit reports on applicants and employees to be able to determine ‘employment decisions.’ Wondering if an employer can still check your credit report? Since, Vermont Act No. 154 (S. 95) restricts employers from using or examining into credit reports or credit histories of job applicants and employees. This act further forbids employers from discriminating (e.g. hire, fire, alter the compensation or any other term or condition of employment) against individuals based on their credit information.
